A form is not successful simply because it has fewer fields. Can users understand what is requested, recover from errors easily and know why their information is needed? Conversion-focused form design answers all of these questions.
Order fields around the decision flow
Requesting sensitive information at the first step can increase abandonment. Start with easy fields that establish context, then ask for higher-effort information after users have seen value in continuing.
- Keep labels permanently visible instead of relying on placeholders.
- Place error messages next to the relevant field and explain how to fix them.
- Match the mobile keyboard type to the expected input.
Users are not simply refusing to complete a form; often the form is making progress unnecessarily difficult.
